The elevator project carried out by Baglini Ascensori Group for the new Waterfront di Levante Porto in Genoa, Levante, is a concrete example of how innovation, quality, and collaboration can bring unique works to life. The project was developed in synergy with the Genoese company Elevatori Normac, which secured the contract and entrusted Baglini Group with the supply and construction of a custom elevator.
This elevator is an integral part of an important port redevelopment initiative designed by the architectural firm Renzo Piano and OBR. For Baglini Group, it was a highly prestigious challenge, as the project required a combination of advanced technical expertise and a strong focus on design to meet the aesthetic and functional requirements set by the architects.
Elevator features
Baglini Group designed and built a panoramic elevator with truly unique characteristics. The shaft was conceived with a partially open structure, a technical choice that gives lightness and elegance to the overall design. The cabin, made entirely of extra-clear glass, offers exceptional transparency, providing a breathtaking view for users. Even the panoramic doors, with mechanisms positioned at the bottom, were designed to combine style and functionality.
To ensure maximum durability and resistance in a marine environment, just 50 meters from the coast, all elevator surfaces have been treated with a special C5 cycle coating. This treatment guarantees optimal protection against the harsh weather conditions typical of coastal areas.
The implementation process was organized with great efficiency. From the initial request to delivery and installation, approximately six to seven months passed. The on-site installation phase was particularly fast, as the system had already been fully pre-assembled in Baglini Group’s facilities. This approach made it possible to reduce operational time in the field while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Challenges faced
One of the most significant challenges was designing the waterproofing system for the elevator roof, essential for withstanding the elements. This component, crucial to preventing water infiltration, required innovative technical solutions and a high level of precision. The most demanding phase was undoubtedly the design process, during which it was exciting to respond to all the architects’ specific requests while considering safety regulations and the area’s climatic conditions.

Thanks to the collaboration with Elevatori Normac and meticulous attention to detail, Baglini Group has completed a project that stands out as an excellence in the industry. This elevator is not just a functional solution but a work that further enhances the architectural and landscape context of the new Porto di Genova.
